If they ever make another Scott Pilgrim movie, False Advertising should be the soundtrack. False Advertising are a grunge-ish, noise pop trio from Manchester who just played a smasher of a set at The Baltic Market for Sound City. Contrary to their name, you get exactly what you’d expect. Powerfully performed and impactful rock that is still loose and careless enough to give them an attitude.
False Advertising are not your typical noisey three piece. Their use of peculiar phrasings in their song structures, powerful vocal harmonies, and a solid rhythm section creates a layered, anything-but-basic sound. Their first few tracks gave us exactly what we came for, and halfway through the set, vocalist / guitarist Jen and drummer Chris swapped places.

Their first few tracks gave us exactly what we came for, and halfway through the set, vocalist / guitarist Jen and drummer Chris swapped places.
What followed were two tracks that were distinctly different (thanks to a male lead vocal) yet still didn’t feel out of place, and showed a flip side to what we expected coming in. The band also treated us to a new song called ‘I Walk’ (we believe, it was very loud!), which was a set highlight, and finished on a track that was a fantastic barrage of grit and energy that left us with a hunger for more. It’s just a shame Sound City has a no encore policy!
The band mentioned that they are on their way to Bristol after their show, which shows a strong dedication to their art. False Advertising are a band that put the work in, and it shows. They’re tight, engaging to watch and just raw enough to suit playing in a converted factory. More please!
